Blogging is not just about writing a post every so often. Want to be popular? Here are 5 easy blogging tips you should check out.
Use social media
The more people you reach, the better your blog will be. Try using social media like Google+, Facebook or Twitter to promote your posts and interact with your visitors. Join blogging groups and help others. All of this will make more blog much more popular. Also, try using hashtags. This will help people interested in a specific subject find your posts. If you’re using WordPress, check out the Publicize option in the Jetpack plugin. It will automatically publish a post on social media about new articles on your blog. Lastly, add widgets and links to all your profiles in a visible place on your website.
Add a newsletter
This is one of the most important things to do. A newsletter will change one-time visitors into subscribers that regularly visit your blog. Try adding a form to a widget area on your page or enabling a pop-up window encouraging people to subscribe. Collect email addresses and send newsletter messages. This is particularly easy on a self-hosted WordPress website. For the form in the widget area, use the Contact Form 7 plugin. For a popup install SumoMe and use the Newsletter plugin to send messages with the newest updates.
Use a responsive design
Your blog will be displayed on many different devices – tablets, PCs, smartphones or even Smart TVs. It’s important for it to display correctly on all of them. For this, you need a responsive design. This will adjust the website to look and work well on all screens. Don’t worry, most new themes on blogging platforms have such a design. If you’re using an old theme though, check whether it is responsive. This feature is crucial to gaining popularity and making a good first impression.
You don’t have to publish a post every day. Two or three every week is totally enough. What’s much more important is publishing them regularly. Your visitors will learn when they should look forward to reading something new from you. If there is no pattern to when you publish, readers will get confused and will only visit your blog occasionally. This is not to say that you can’t have a break sometimes, this just shouldn’t happen to often.
Sure, text is cool. But adding a picture, a video or a slideshow to your posts will engage your visitors much more. If a topic is complicated, a picture can make explaining it much easier. Also, this will help you avoid long, boring descriptions. Another advantage of using pictures is the fact that they will be indexed by search engines, driving even more traffic to your blog. When pasting photos into your posts, remember to give them ALT tags in case somebody has problems viewing them. In addition, this will make them appear higher in the image search results.
